Is there anyway of locking my Apple Watch so that I can still read the watch face but not activate any of the apps? My 6 month old has become fascinated by it and is managing to makes phone calls and change my watch face!

You can put the lock on. Swipe up control centre and press the blue water lock button. To unlock turn the crown quickly and you will hear a sound that’s unlocked.

You could disable Wrist Detection. From the Watch app on your iPhone, go to Passcode >Wrist Detection>Off. In order to access any screen on your watch other than the Home screen, you'll need to enter the passcode.
Note, you won't be able to use Apple Pay with this setting turned off.
