Why can’t we LOCK an iPhone with Siri?

Why can't Siri lock my iPhone

When my iPhone is unlocked, I would like to lock it by saying, Hey Siri lock my iPhone.

Siri says, "I can not do that for you. My apologies."

Whats the issue? Why would Apple not allow this functionality.

The situation would be where you are in the vicinity of your phone but don’t have physical access to it and it’s in the hands of someone adversarial (enemy)... there is the option to do this with the phone already locked “Siri, who’s phone is this?”

BTW... locking phone with power button doesn’t require passcode so it’s not effective for this situation (5 power button presses accomplishes this but might not work in a tense combative situation)

That's going way into the area of highly unlikely.

Unless, I suppose, you're with the the CIA or FBI, you're tied to a chair, and the bad guy's have your phone. Still pointless since they can override your voice command by simply holding your finger to the home button to unlock it, followed by a very sharp blow to the head, if necessary, to keep you from yelling to lock the phone again.

I know this comes off as sounding nefarious but it’s simply an issue of privacy. Maybe you don’t want authorities to know your religious beliefs (Jews would appreciate this) or perhaps we want privacy of our monetary transactions or conversations... regardless of their content or nature... privacy is a human right. And although some court can rule against the use of touchID or faceID, the court can’t stop the use of force to gain access.

So yes I admit this is “edge case” but it would allow convenience and the option to lock out when required without physical access

Out of over a billion users your issue appears to be close to unique. If you are so concerned turn off biometric unlocking, and always lock with the side button. And set auto lock to a small number. I'm not sure who you think is going to force you to unlock the phone, but in the US at least the courts ruled recently that law enforcement cannot force you to unlock your phone by any method without a warrant, and if they do anyway any evidence thus obtained is inadmissible. And if you are dealing with criminal elements this is the least of your problems.

Yeah I read it, now please read mine :) the function of the “yelled out” command would be to lock the phone and REQUIRE a passcode. At this point touchID and faceID are disabled and you would have to physically enter in your passcode... much like if you get your finger print wrong X number of times. Of course you could be tortured to enter in your passcode but at least it wouldn’t be against your will and would be more effort for the adversary.

Simple issue of privacy!

privacy is a human right.

Ah, there is the problem. Privacy is not a human right. Over the millennia it has not been. The idea of privacy is a very recent one, dating to the 1960's, and even then it wasn't enforced for the most part.

In 1999, Scott McNealy, co-founder of Sun Microsystems, said "You have zero privacy anyway. Get over it."

However, discussing this feature here where Apple won't see it is pointless. To make your opinion known to Apple use:https://apple.com/feedback

The idea of privacy is the biggest illusion proponents of the idea have ever tried to convince the world of. It almost can't be done.

Everyone you work with knows where you are. Everyone who sees you at the grocery store, movie theater, driving your car, a million other possible example where you are publicly visible.

It isn't even possible to get 100% privacy if you shut yourself in a windowless room for the rest of your life. Someone will have to bring you food and water, at the very minimum. You'll sure want your Social Security checks, so the government and the postal service know where you are. So does your bank, since they'll be the ones handling the deposit or cashing out of your checks. And many other parts of life you must interact with.

Want complete privacy? You'll have to find a completely uninhabited part of the world where you can also subsist off the land, and avoid any other humans who happen to come across your location.
