iCloud has been backing up for 4 days

My phone has been backing up for 4 days, how can you see the progress and why is it taking so long?

The only way to see the progress is to go to Settings>Your Name>iCloud>iCloud Backup. There is a blue progress bar along with a time estimate of how much longer the backup will take. I find the estimated times to be very unreliable, but four days for a backup is totally absurd. Something is obviously wrong.

Maybe your internet connection is slow, the backup size is extremely large, or a file or series of files is causing the backup to take so long. I know some people don’t recommend this, but I would stop the backup, restart the phone and try again. Chances are you may have to force quit the settings app if you can’t cancel the backup.

You may also have to turn iCloud backups off in the settings. That may not work as you would hope, so you may have to force quit settings again and restart the phone then turn the backup on and try again.

I make thse suggestions from my own experience. As much as it is wonderful to rely on the automatic backup feature of iCloud, I have also found the process to be somewhat flakey at times.
