When I upgrade my Airport Express from 7.6.9 to 7.7.9 my airplay stops working.
I've tried this multiple times and have the same experience, each time, reverting back to 7.6.9 to enable streaming to occur from my iMac and other devices.
Can someone advise what is occurring and what I should do to enable airplay on the latest airport express version?

When I upgrade my Airport Express from 7.6.9 to 7.7.9 my airplay stops working.
The 802.11n AirPort Express base station can run firmware versions: 7.6.2 thru .9. It cannot run 7.7.9. Did you mean to say that you upgraded it to 7.8? If so, then we get numerous posts here at the ASC with AirPlay streaming issues with 7.8. The only known "solution" is to downgrade the Express back to 7.6.9 or 7.6.8.

An AirPort Express cannot be updated from 7.6.9 to 7.7.9, so not sure what you are asking about here.
Is it possible that you are really asking about firmware update 7.8 for the AirPort Express? See this Apple Support document for more details:

If you have been trying to use firmware 7.8, , there are thousands of posts on this forum and other forums about difficulties with the AirPlay2 update for the AirPort Express, and the only real solution for these folks has been to roll back the firmware to the previous 7.6.9 version.
Thanks both! I clearly made a mistake on the next version number, but you've confirmed it stops my steaming capability.
I've seen posts on Airplay 2, but wasn't clear what it was or implications on existing streaming capability.
I'll maintain the existing firmware version... but really makes me wonder what Apple had in mind by taking this capability away.
