Can I import XAVC S format directly into iMovie?
About to buy a Sony X53 4K camcorder and was wondering if the 4K video in XAVC S format video can be imported directly for editing.
iMac 27", macOS 10.13
Without having an XAVC-S camcorder to test, I don't know whether you can import directly into iMovie.
I didn't see your camcorder listed in Apple's website of supported cameras. Perhaps you didn't provide the full name? There are several XAVC-S format camcorders listed however. Check it out for yourself.

From what I have read, Sony's XAVC-S uses the Mp4 wrapper with MPEG-4/AAC, that iMovie likes. So I would think that it would import directly into iMovie, but don't know for sure. If it isn't on the supported camera list, I would be cautious. Perhaps Sony has a forum or website where you could post your question.
