Do I need a screen cover on my iPad ?

Purely a personal decision for you. There is no right or wrong. Millions of people use their iPads without a screen protector. Still other millions use a screen protector all the time. If it makes you feel better then use one. iPads have very strong, scratch resistant screens so it might depend on how rough you intend to use it. The screens are scratch resistant, not scratch proof.

Whatever you feel comfortable with. I've gone a few years and three iPads without a screen protector now, but when I am not using it, I always have the Apple folding screen cover over it. No scratches. I would never consider carrying around without that.

I agree that it is a completely personal choice. If you have used an iOS touch screen device in the past and you used it without a screen protector, then you are the best judge of what you should do. I have never used an iPod Touch, an iPhone or an iPad without a screen protector. I want to keep my devices as pristine as possible.
