can i move the folders under my home folder

I am trying to extend the life of my mid-2011 27" iMac. I have installed an SSD (480gb) which will be my system drive (OS and applications primarily) and replaced the original internal 2tb HD with a 6tb unit. To prevent running out of space on the SSD I would like to point some of the system folders (Pictures, Movies, Music, Documents) to the secondary HD (6tb). Can I do this? I know I can create folders on that drive and manually place my files there (that's what I did before when I had an external HD) but because they are not the system folders I have found that over time things end up in there.
