MacBook Pro- Stage-light issue

I had been struck by the infamous stagelight flaw for macbook where we see shadows at the bottom of the display. I contacted apple support and they told me to go to my nearest service center. They told me that they can't repair it and since my product is out of warranty, I have to shell out $720 to get the screen replaced! This is ridiculous amount is 50% of the price of the laptop itself and I can't afford it.

The reason for this issue is that the flex cable connecting the logic board to the display wear out when the lid is open/closed a fixed number of times. This means that by definition, this issue is bound to show up in most of the cases when the warranty is void as the they won't wear out as early as within 1 year!

Someone told me that just changing the cable can help. Is that true? What options do I have?

Please help!

At this writing, your options are:

1) use an external display

2) Pay them the money to replace the entire screen. The cable is not modular, and there are no piece parts available -- except possibly entire used screens on the used market (a computer that drank a glass of water and died often still has a good display).

This issue is apparently now happening to 100's if not 1000's of people. The small cable wears out over time- usually taking longer than 1 year to show up so that it's out of warranty. The design was changed in 2018, so Apple clearly knows about the issue. But if you have a 2016/17 MacBook pro right now and this issue shows up you are scr*wed. Started happening to mine today, my wife's screen had to be replaced last month.
