Googled hijacked by Yahoo

Not sure what happened today, but yahoo is now hijacking google. None of the previously posted answers to this issue seem to be helping. (Or I've missed the one that would). I use Safari Version 12.0.3 (14606.4.5)

I've checked Safari/Preferences

  • Extensions and see nothing unusual (just AdBlock and 1 Click PDF).
  • Search/Manage Websites and removed anything yahoo. Google is the default engine

I ran MalwareBytes - all clean.

I checked System/Preferences

  • extensions - only Skype and an outdated ClamXav show up (BTW, how do I delete old apps)

I cannot figure out what else to check to get rid of whatever is hijacking my google.

please help!

MacBook Pro 15", macOS 10.14

 1. Remove unknown Login item.

System Preferences > Users & Groups > Login items

     Authenticate and unlock the lock.

Highlight the unknown login item (Mac Mechanic?) and click the “-“ button at the bottom left to remove it.

2 Check your Bookmarks folder for unknown bookmarks.

3 Run Malwarebytes for Mac couple of times.

4. Make sure you restart your Mac.
