Yahoo hijacked Safari search from Google

I cannot post to the old threads I found on this topic, so I am starting a new one. I have tried several fixes (including ones found here), and cannot get rid of Yahoo that has overtaken Safari and is causing it to barely run.

I am using OS X El Capitan 10.11.6.

  • I have no extensions (none there to delete).
  • My settings are unchanged (home page, search engine).
  • I saw one unrecognizable application I uninstalled (Stormygreatz).
  • Cleared all my website data.
  • I restarted computer and Safari, and it is still there.

Where else can I look?

Restart the computer and relaunch Safari holding the shift key down.

 Remove unknown profiles.

      System Preferences > Profiles

Open System Preferences, click the “Profiles” icon ( a checkmark on a gear) .

When Profiles pane opens, select the unknown profile and click the minus button at the bottom.
