I have an iPhone 5s, iOs 12.1.4.
I have made no changes, but am suddenly having issues that when I create new events in iCal, via my iPhone, it says I have saved the event/meeting, but the event does not appear.
I've spent about an hour going through Apple's support solutions, solutions in the community, solutions on other website, but the issue remains.
[I can still add events in iCal via my laptop].

Seems to be working now!
Go to calendar and click on bottom and chose your calendars to view. I suggest it might be Work or personal. Depending on your Default calendar
Calendar will not save new events/meetings, via the iPhone
