imac 2012 target display mode with windows?

i have a late 2012 imac, and a windows laptop with windows 10, is there anyway i can display my pc on the imac? my pc has a mini display port, but the mini display port cable doesnt seem to do anything.

i press cmd f2 or cmd fn f2 and nothing happens.

some people say its not possible to do it with a windows pc, some say it's possible i dont know who to belive.

is there maybe a driver i need to download on pc? if this doesnt work what's the best alternative to display my pc on the imac's screen?
