Wallet App Bricked

The Wallet app on iPhone SE (iOS 12.1.2) shows a white screen when opened, freezes for 5-10 seconds and then closes itself. When I try to open "Wallet and Apple Pay" in the settings app, it freezes the settings app for 5-10 seconds, then finally opens it (but there is not much I can change in the settings to affect this glitch). Double click on the lock screen also doesn't launch Apple Pay.

This started after the battery was disconnected. Initially the phone didn't even launch the home screen after entering the passcode, but then it automatically started restoring itself. After 10 minutes or it finished and worked as usual, except for Apple Pay.

Any ideas what could be the problem?
