10.12.6 to 10.13.6 becoming a nightmare on MacPro mid 2010 despite following instructions

I put OSX 10.13.6 on an SSD with a firmware update, and IT WORKED!

Then I moved that SSD to another bay (native SATA) and it does NOT work.

I returned the SSD to the original bay and it does NOT work.

I tried to redo the update on that SSD from a 10.12.6 disk as before this way:

https://support.apple.com/kb/DL1970?locale=en_US

and got the message below, even tho the failing disk IS 10.13.6,

even tho I was on 10.12.6 the first time the upgrade succeeded,

Then I went to the app store and tried and got the next message below.

The "250" is APFS (Case-insensitive). This is the 10.13.6 that wont boot anymore.

The "240" is Mac OS Extended, 10.12.6 and I get the same message.

Dont know what to do now, and I dont know how to change the journaling

even when looking at disk utility. Any advice appreciated. Thanks

Hmmm, you're the first person I've ever heard of that could apply the combo update to an already 10.13.6 install!?

Did it have all the Security updates already on it?

I think you'll need to Reinstall...

1. Start up from macOS Recovery

To start up from macOS Recovery, turn on your Mac and immediately press and hold one of the following combinations on your keyboard. Command-R is generally recommended, especially if you never installed macOS Sierra 10.12.4 or later.

Command (⌘)-R

Install the latest macOS that was installed on your Mac.

Option-⌘-R

Upgrade to the latest macOS compatible with your Mac.

Shift-Option-⌘-R

Install the macOS that came with your Mac, or the closest version still available.

Release the keys when you see the Apple logo, a spinning globe, or a prompt for a firmware password. When you see the Utilities window, you've started up from macOS Recovery.

Now I am stuck in a loop 22.

I'm on a 10.12.6 disk & I want to put 10.13.xx on a 10.13.6 APFS+ disk

which has 10.13.6 but wont work. EFI firmware must be in place

or it wouldn't be APFS+, right?

Using this to get to 10.13 from any disk

https://support.apple.com/kb/DL1970?locale=en_US

I am stuck here right at the start: I get message I need 10.13 (2d below).

Trying straight from the app store I get message 1st below.
