Please download and invoke and post the output report of EtreCheck here, and when you open up the reply here, then use the (highlighted) button that looks like a printed page to get enough room to paste the report here. EtreCheck will generate a configuration report containing the hardware and software configuration, and from that we might be able to find a cause.

Common causes of errors here can be adblockers, adware, malware, anti-virus and anti-malware and related packages, and (unsurprisingly) there can be network errors.

Anti-virus and anti-malware work by intercepting and decrypting all network connections and then re-encrypting the connections, and the tools don't always get all of that right. Other tools can cause problems, including system cleaners and performance optimizers and related, as well as add-on network-monitoring and firewall tools.

What happened when trying to paste the EtreCheck configuration report into the forums? If you didn't get to a text-input window, here's some more detail on getting to that. The printed-page box is how Apple is doing a sort-of file attachment, and that input field is usually big enough to hold the EtreCheck report.

I was not able to copy report as per instructions. Report said major issue was several anti-virus apps running so I removed Malwarebytes--that is only one I have besides Avira. Also identified several minor issues. I will see if removing Malwarebytes solved the problem. If not I will get rescan and maybe buy pro version. Report is too long to post here so I include only a little.
