iPhone 6s (iOS 10.3.3) Bluetooth Connectivity Issues

Hi all. About an hour ago, I was on the phone, listening over bluetooth, and when I got off, I went to go play music but it suddenly started to skip in and out and then went silent for 30-45 seconds at a time, coming back for around 5-10 to play the music before going quiet again. The whole time it was connected and playing to the selected earphones. I tried disconnecting and reconnecting, different earbuds, different music app, youtube videos, turning bluetooth off and on, clearing up some devices, and even doing a network reset, to no avail. I also noticed that after a while, the connection just drops with the earbuds, and when I try to reconnect, it takes much longer, and often 5 tries, as if the bluetooth has just gotten years older. Are there any solutions out there that wouldn't involve me getting a new phone or sending in to get a fix?! I use this bluetooth every day and really need it to listen to music when I can't have a computer with me. Thank you thank you thank you.

Good afternoon treatbs,

Welcome to the Apple Support Communities!

I understand you are having some issues playing music from your iPhone to Bluetooth earphones. It sounds like you've done quite a bit of troubleshooting yourself. Could you provide a little more info about this issue?

  • Did this issue just occur today, or have you had similar issues with playback in the past?
  • Does the music play back properly when using the internal speakers on the iPhone?
  • You mentioned using different earphones. What make/models are you using?
  • What music apps were you using?
  • Are you playing music that is stored on the iPhone, or are you streaming music from Apple Music, Pandora, etc?

The first troubleshooting step I would suggest is updating the iOS on your iPhone to the most current version, which is iOS 12.1.4.

Then quit the apps you are using to play music, and update the apps as well.

If you are using third party earphones, check to see if there are any updates. Try unpairing the earphones, then pair them again.

Unplug the earphones, and restart the iPhone. Test the music you were playing before, listening through the internal speakers first, then testing with the earphones.

If you are having issues with multiple Bluetooth earphones, try moving to a different location in your home to see if there is something affecting the Wi-Fi or Bluetooth signal.

Update your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Pair a third-party Bluetooth accessory with your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch

Resolve Wi-Fi and Bluetooth issues caused by wireless interference

Please reply back to this thread when you get a chance with an update after trying these steps.

Take care.
