is iCloud file system accessible on Apple tv?
Hi, I have 2TB iCloud and I store videos there, not inside Photos.
I wish to know if the Apple tv is capable of playing videos stored inside my iCloud directories.
regards

sathio, you can access Photos stored in iCloud via tv but videos stored in iCloud outside Photos are not accessible.
Good luck, Tom
You can airplay them onto Apple TV. Resolution is reduced somewhat. Mine look fine.
🤦♂️ Turns out it was my fault 🤦♂️
I connected the apple tv to the amplifier and somehow the amplifier is not capable of handling all that data.
I'm now using fiber cable (TOSLINK) for audio from tv to ampli and it's definitely better.
You might do a speedtest of your wireless connection then refer to Netflix
minimum speed supporting 4K content - before cabling HDMI..
When using iCloud Photo Library via the photos app, the videos would be stored in full resolution in iCloud, and the user would have the option to have that full resolution or to maximize storage (which will revert them to lower resolution when necessary) when viewing on computer or IOS photos app.
You can verify what is stored in the cloud by going to iCloud.com and viewing the photo library.
Hi, the video is stored correctly but i'm sure that when I view it on the apple tv it has a lower resolution.
If I try to airplay (by mirroring) it it's somewhat better but a bit choppy. it's a 4k 60fps video.
If I try to airplay from Quicktime it won't even start. apparently it doesn't support mp4 H.264
I'm really not impressed about this apple tv. if I want to see videos I make at their best, what would be the best course of action? direct connection with hdmi?
I'm thinking about returning the apple tv
cheers
I doubt it's an apple tv issue to be honest.
It's just real poor quality on Airplay/Photos.
For example, when I mirror the screen i can see a lot of mpeg artifacts on the icons.
so i believe there's some serious downsizing on the quality of the content.
To make sure I'm not seeing things I attached the tv via Hdmi to the macbook and of course the quality is back.
so I guess this evening I'll go back to the apple store and give back the apple tv.
My hookup is tv to television set, the latter to my amp via HDMI. I've installed
a couple of sound bars that have optical for connecting the tv set. The signal starts
with tv, then to the television with its auxiliary equipments, amps, etc.
Yes, I just bought the apple tv and i'm somewhat disappointed, videos from Photos are very low quality. I don't get the point of it.
thanks for your help though
no, it can't be that, i'm on a gigabit connection and wifi here is 5GHz
Agree.
Apparently your tv is not meeting spec. If a Reset doesn’t correct it you
might exchange it or ask Genius to
test. Goid luck, Tom
If your getting lower resolution on your tv vs. laptop make sure your cable’s
true 4K - then check Settings: Video and Audio - 4K should be filled in.
Assuming your new tv is indeed 4K.
