problem downloading apps

i have a new i phone x, i am based in the UK. when i try to download an app it comes up with the message;

account not in this store

your account is not valid for use in the US store.

you must switch to the UK store before purchasing

i can't even update existing apps on the phone.

the region is set correctly to UK in settings

help please!
