Photos is a part of the system. You update Photos by updating the installed system.

Which system version is running on your Mac?

If you are seeing an update alert in Photos, but your Mac is not showing an update, your system version is probably at least two years old and you need to upgrade to macOS 10.13 High Sierra or macOS 14 Mojave to get acmes to photo project extensions. Major System upgrades are not shown as updates. You install them by purchasing the the upgrade (for free) from the App Store.

As of Oct. 1 of last year Apple has dropped providing Print Products. They are not provided thru several online providers. Here's a list of the available services:  Old Toad: Post 9/30/2018 Printing Options for Photos

If your running Photos 3 or earlier and can still create a PDF file of your book there's a 3rd party book provider which used to do the printing for Apple, Mimeo, that will take PDF files created by iPhoto and Photos and print and bind books and calendars.

Also you can upload the PDF file to PrestoPhotos which also can print and bind books and calendars from iPhoto or Photos pdf files.  They've been doing it for some time now.

Use the PrestoPhotos or Mimeo links above for direct access to the PDF file uploading and book/calendar ordering page for each site.
