“filter failed” error

My Epson 7800 printer suddenly stopped working due to a “Filter failed” error that appears in my print cue. I’v never had this problem before. I reset my printer list from the Printers & Scanners preferences in the system per Apples instructions to no avail. To make matters more confusing I also tried printing the same file using a different computer that has been sitting idle and unplugged for nearly a year and I got the same error. The second computer had no problems printing when I shut it down last year. Epson support insists the problem is not with the printer or driver but I don’t see how that’s possible unless the photoshop file I copied to the second computer is the source of a virus? How could both unconnected computers suddenly have the same printing problem?
