Add-ins for OneNote

I've been a faithful Mac user (and iPad, iPod, iPhone, Macbook, etc.) for years. I rarely have a big complaint but lately I'm finding just how much Apple lags behind Windows with certain features, such as the add-ins that are available through programs like OneNote. That may not seem like a big deal but it is, to some people who rely heavily on those features for their planning. Rather than purchase a Windows computer or use BootCamp - it would be great if Apple could be on par with their Windows counterparts and allow add-ins from safe websites. Seriously, this isn't a crazy thing and just looking at Windows and Apple forums will tell you that it's something your users want. Is this ever going to be possible?!

When I find a product that meets my needs I use that product. I find it of little effect to try to convince a competitor to copy the offerings of another product. Apple appears to be doing very well with the products/capabilities they offer. If you need the additional capability offered by Windows then the choice seems obvious. It will be much quicker to switch to Windows, or run Windows on your Mac, than it will be to convince Apple to change their offering to be more like Windows.

Maybe you can convince Microsoft to embed the OneNote functionality you need so that it will run on your Mac.

That's all well and fine but you apparently need a function that is not available. I was only suggesting the fastest approach to getting your need satisfied would be to use available tools such as installing Windows on your Mac. If that is an unacceptable alternative I'm afraid you'll have to do without the functionality you want for some time.

Well that's certainly nice that you feel Apple is meeting all of your needs. Since I'm not the only one asking Apple to offer add-ins, I find the answer to be obvious: Don't lag behind your competitors when you could be offering equally capable programs. This is not Microsoft's problem, it's Apple's. Apple doesn't offer add-in functionality therefore Apple is the one who restricts the use of something that most people running Microsoft programs use. If Apple wants to continue restricting use to add-ins, that's their prerogative. But if they want to enter 2019 and offer equally capable programs and accessibility, they'll consider listening to their customers, not forcing them to switch to Windows to get better products.
