In Mac Pages, how to generate Figure or Table numbers automatically, and making them aligned in sequence?

I'm working on a document under Mac Pages. I already generated the figure captions and table captions. Whereas now I wonder whether the figure/table number will be formatted manually and aligned automatically.

For example, I inserted a figure (generated and copied from omnigraffle) into the main body, inserted the caption below the figure. I give it the name as "figure 1". Then the second figure I inserted in to the main body, I want it to be named as "figure 2" automatically. And once I delete figure 1, I hope the originally caption "figure 2" will be automatically updated as "figure 1", since right now it is the first figure shown in the texts.

Also, I wonder whether the citation for "figure 2" in the text can be updated together once the # is updated.

Otherwise, whenever I updated the figure numbers in the document, I need to modify all the related figure # and the texts citing the figure #.

Is there any way we can implement it? I know there is such feature in Word, or Latex. Can Pages do that, too?

Thanks.
