Complicated question about Apple Watch capabilities

Hi, is it possible to use the Apple Watch as a personal tracking device without owning an iPhone? I am trying to figure out if I should buy an Apple Watch for my mom’s eldery partner. They live in South Aftica and he doesn’t want a phone (of any kind) but due to his failing health my mom would like to make sure she knows how to find him if something goes wrong. Is there a way he can wear only the watch and have my mom track his location through Find Friends or some other way that isn’t overly complicated? I assume he’ll need to series 4 with GPS and cellular.

Glad to help. You might consider purchasing the iPhone for your Mom and getting the watch for her partner. The watch will detect falls and dial emergency contacts which is one of the reasons I bought one.

I bought an iPhone for her already but I just saw that you can track your watch location on Find iPhone so she just needs to register the watch in her name and Apple ID then give it to him to wear. That way she can track his location. But he’ll need to cellular to be activated on their cel network.
