iPad won’t go to homescreen???

I was on a certain app and I tried to go to the home screen to switch the app but it wouldn’t let me. The home button works fine, all the buttons do. But for some reason I can’t go to the home screen not through the on screen home button, clicking notifications, control center, NOTHING. I can’t even power it down too! I can still take screenshots and swipe and all that but it’s stuck in the app. Someone please help me!
