Help My Keyboard Is Playing Fast and Loose with Sounds

I have a new magic wireless keyboard paired with an iMac High Sierra 10.13.6 - but the keyboard is behaving strangely in terms of the volume controls.

The key board does not control volume eg f10 does nothing, f11 switches the screen picture off and takes me to screen saver, f12 takes me to dashboard.

Grateful for advice. Thanks.

Open System Preferences > Keyboard > Keyboard. Uncheck "Use F1, F2, as…".
