I have reformatted 3 USB drives via disk utility to MS-DOS FAT32 so I can use on both windows and MAC, however even after doing this, the USB drive is only read only still. I have tried over 3 USBs now and still no luck (2 are brand new). Any advice? I have downloaded NFTS For MAC and used that rather than disk utility and still not luck - what am I doing wrong?

Make sure to set "View" to "Show All Devices", then choose the top level of the drives and format them as FAT32, with a Master Boot Record partition scheme.

What happens if you format them on a Windows machine?
Just out of curiosity, can you format them as HFS+? Mac OS Extended (Journaled) GUID partition scheme?
I think for now that's all you can do. You could try resetting the SMC.

Directly into the USB drives on the macbook - I will try on another macbook when I get access to see if its a fault with my macbook
Hi - I tried that and still no luck, formatted to MS-DOS(FAT), the only other option apart from MAC was ExFAT or Microsoft NFTS. With master reboot option and the USB is still in read only format :(
It seems you left something out. I've never used a wireless flash drive so I don't know how to troubleshoot it. You might want to contact SanDisk support: https://kb.sandisk.com/
Thanks for the help, unfortunately it happens to every flash drive I use, regardless of company make.
BTW, flash drives normally come pre-formatted as FAT32. Were these changed?
I don't have access to a windows machine at present, but 2 of the USB sticks were brand new from the packet but still never worked. So odd
Just tried it on a spare one and the drive is not visible anywhere once formatted - not sure if its a laptop fault now
It would be good if you could test the drives on other machines. Are you plugging in the drives directly or into a hub?
