Missing "Index.xml" file in Pages 9

I tried to open an old document and got a message, "File couldn't be opened. The required index.xml file is missing." How can I retrieve old (Pages 9) documents?

Hi BufSolja,

The file you are attempting to open (using Pages '09) is not a Pages '09 file. If it was originally created in Pages '09 (Pages 4.x), it has since been opened in and saved from a later version of Pages. Pages 5 was a 'from the ground up' rewrite, not a revision of the earlier application carrying the Pages name. The new application uses a different file format from the one used by Pages '09. The new format does not include an index.xml file; the older file format is a 'package' and included a file named index.xml. Without that index file, Pages '09 cannot open the 'package', and sends the message you received.

To open the file, either launch the later version of Pages you have on your Mac (it's icon is predominately orange and white) , then open the file using File > Open, or drag the file icon and drop it on the newer Pages icon in the Dock.

Regards,

Barry
