Mac pro

or MacBook Pro??

What exact Mac/model/year ?

what macOS?

You have to go pretty far back to get to a Mac with a removal battery—this would be the battery door accessible from the outside, like a ibook G4 or a polycarbonate black mac.

You can try again—

Try resetting the SMC https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201295

Try resetting NVRAM/PRAM http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1379

A lot of guess work here—if this happens to be the 2012 model MBP, you should always replace the SATA cable at the same time you upgrade the HD/SSD: https://eshop.macsales.com/item/Apple/8211480/ a known issue

If you have a bootclone try booting off that externally—this would be a definitive test in isolating the issue.
