Persistent notification banner not staying on screen when I am using touch ID ( thump) to open phone

I use thump print ( Touch ID) to open my phone. In notifications I set almost all my banner style notifications to persistent ( as opposed to temporary).

Every time I open my phone with my thump all the notification disappear quickly and if I am not paying attention while I open my phone I don't even know I have notifications. I thought persistent would require me to clear it manually. The only time this works perfectly fine is if I am on my phone (using it) when I get the notification, it works well and I have to clear it manually.

Is there a way to make my iPhone 7 (I am using the later IOS as well) keep my notifications on my phone when I use my thumb to open the phone so I can clear it manually?

This happens for all notifications including apple pay notifications.

I know I can check notification center regularly to see what came in but i don't want to do that all the time as persistent banner is what I would like .

Please help.

Thank you. It's too bad there isn't an option to leave the alert on after you unlock the phone until you clear it, that way I don't miss anything. What you stated above is another option but I don't want to be doing that all the time.

As stated in my original post, if I am using my phone and an an alert comes in, it works perfectly well ( IE I have to clear the notification before it goes away). I am asking this question mostly for notification when I use my credit card as some have their notification through their App and some through Apple Pay but it's all the same if my phone is locked.

Appreciate the info though...... thanks again.
