error code -1712
Whenever I try to open a .jpg or .pdf, the spinning ball comes on for a minute and then error code -1712 appears. What is wrong with my finder? I tried disk repair and nothing is working!

That error means "Apple event timed out" - whatever that is!
What applications are you trying to open these with?
You should also update Tiger to 10.4.11.
