It is possible that the iPhone sounds are turned off? I am pinging it on my watch and on Find My iPhone but I can't hear anything. I am not sure what to do next.

Does Find My iPhone indicate it's located in your general vicinity? If FMiP says it's playing a sound on the phone, that overrides DND, the mute switch, etc. If you can't hear it, then it's not as close to you as you think it is, or it's under something that's muffling the sound. Keep looking.
They were incorrect. Playing a sound from FMiP will bypass the silent switch as well as Do Not Disturb.
Thank you, that's helpful to know, as Customer Support told me if the phone is on silient it won't play a sound from the Find My iPhone prmpt.
