email keeps opening randomly

While working on my Mac Pro, my email will pop up randomly into a split screen on the right side of my other work. This happens while I'm on the internet, working in Word, reading a PDF, it's constant. And sometimes it does not appear that there's a new email in my inbox to prompt this. Please help.
