Macbook Pro 13" 2017 USB-C to HDMI 2.0
I have a MacBook Pro 13" 2017 (2 thunderbolt ports), and unfortunately after buying 2 different high quality USB-C to HDMI 2.0 active cables (Samsung & Satechi) I concluded there is an evident problem with the USB-C ports on this Mac.
Both adapters are connected under the USB 3.0 section of the System Profiler but unfortunately identified as USB 2.0 connections with a speed of up to 480 MB/sec. The utter problem is that 4 out of 5 times I unplug and replug the cable it can't display 4K @ 60hz. Not even by holding the "option" key to show the refresh rates on the Display panel.
To add more to the conversation, by running an IO registry application called "IORegistryExplorer", both cables have an entry that prompts me to visit: http://help.vesa.org/dp-usb-type-c/ By reading this URL it is evident that both the USB-C ports of my MacBook do not support DP Alt Mode in order to display the output correctly.
It's a very frustrating problem, as there are other mentions as well that specifically the MacBook 2017 & iMac models have a problem on their USB-C ports.
