Evidently you can use an ethernet connection to your iPad, but it's NOT easy. Read this thread posted a couple years ago here in the forum and it explains how to use an ethernet connect to provide internet to an ipad: https://discussions.apple.com/thread/7794507

If you mean can you use cellular data, the answer is no, assuming that you have a WiFi only iPad. If you have a cellular iPad, then you can use that instead of WiFi for a lot of things, but you cannot download iOS updates or download anything larger than 150MB. You need to use WiFi for those.


You cannot add cellular capability to a WiFi only device either since that would require a Hardware upgrade. That’s not possible on an iPad.
