I have a MacBook Pro running OS 10.13. It is getting full, so I'd like to 'transfer' files to an external hard drive. I googled and I see so much confusing information. Is there an easy way to achieve this?
Please note, I'd like to completely remove the files from my MacBook Pro.

Command key while dragging to another volume: Move the dragged item to the other volume, instead of copying it.
But I like to ensure the file successfully transferred before deleting it.

Connect the external Apple formatted drive to your computer's USB port and drag and drop the files from the computer to the external drive. What confusing information are you seeing?
Delete the files off the computer after you move them.

I was seeing that the process you described would only copy the files to the external, not remove them. I'm trying to free up space on my MacBook Pro.
