when typing or opening anything there is no response from my first touch unless I hit keyboard hard

So far good with turning Touch Accomodation OFF.

Do you have a screen protector on your iPad? That could affect touch.
That said you could try this:
Settings > General > Accessibility > Touch Accommodations
Turn on Touch Accommodations, but leave all the other options on that page off.

i do have a screen protector but its been on since purchase with no keyboard trouble till 6 weeks ago.
Ive gone into setting and turned Touch Accomodation OFF.
So far so good. I’m very pleased as was having to go back and correct all the missed letters.

if it's a Bluetooth keyboard then I've had the issue with Bluetooth keyboards in general on most platforms
It didn't dawn on me he may have been referring to an external keyboard? Thanks for adding your input.
