my MacBook calendar is not syncing with my iphone

my MacBook is not syncing with my iPhone for the calendar. when my wife sends an appt for the calendar nothing happens

MacBook Pro 13", macOS 10.14

Calendars do not "sync" in the same way other files do.

In order to appear on more than one device, the Master Calendar must be placed on a Server that is visible on the Internet (such as iCloud) and "subscribed to" by each device.

A master calendar strictly on your phone is not shareable in this way.

Is the Mac using the calendar on iCloud, and not a local "on my Mac" calendar?

In System preferences > Internet Accounts > iCloud ...

... is the checkbox for Calendars checked ?

good question...I don't know the difference. I believe I'm using the apple calendar from MacBook. does this help explain what is going on? Prior to the last update to Mojave, I didn't seem to have this issue.

I don't understand the question. After fiddling with my various emails I told my wife to use the iCloud mobilme address and this seemed to work. Prior to these problems she could send appointments to either my hotmail or yahoo accounts and they all worked.

my phone, my MacBook and my wife's macbbook and phone are all in the iCloud. When she sends a calendar alert I get this on my phone but not my computer.
