Share Photos library from External Hard Drive to AppleTV using Home Sharing

I have had my photos on an external hard drive for several years and it works great, no problem (so the move was done correctly). The new location is the System Preference location.

I turned on Home Sharing in order to show pictures on the main TV. I used iTunes on my mac to turn on Home Sharing and I went to my AppleTV to the Computer app, Photos and nothing was there. The Photos app showed only the pictures from my iPad. Weird.

Turned Home Sharing off on the AppleTV, restarted it, then reactivated Home Sharing - nothing. Went into iTunes and pointed the Home Sharing --> Choose Photos to a different folder and it worked. Awesome... except I don't have all of the photos I want to share in one folder. I want to share all of my pictures from the Photos library on my Mac.

When I tell iTunes to share the library from Photos, I think it is trying to share the Mac default location. I put an alias there (deleted the "alias" title part) to try to redirect it to the external drive. Nada.

Is it possible to share pictures/videos from Photos when the Photos library is on an external drive through Home Sharing? I appreciate any help.

Thanks, that has been done. I left it alone overnight and this morning it was mostly working. I wonder if it needs to run some sort of indexing? My library is 400GB, so maybe the size is a problem for the sharing?

Anyhow, now it lets me browse about 15 minutes and then it disconnects. Both the Mac and Apple TV are wired, so should be plenty of bandwidth. At least it is somewhat functional now.
