Garageband 10.3.2 - can't add effects/audio units to some tracks, and even when I can they aren't working

Some tracks, e.g. basic audio track, the audio unit option is missing AND the effect pedal icon is taken away? Why? Why can't any track have effects?

And even when I force the effects to be there by making it a guitar track (even when I intend to use it for something else e.g. vocals), and the effects are activated, are on, you can't hear them, they aren't actually effecting the sound.

You did enable the Audio Units in the GarageBand preferences, right? "GarageBand > Preferences > Audio/Midi >Enable Audio Units".

Which version of GarageBAnd do you have installed? In the older versions of garageBand 10 you may need to enlarge the pane for the Smart Controls by dragging the dividing line between the Smart Controls and the Track area upward. Otherwise the plug-ins controls to add audio units may not show.
