I did a scan in the notes app and the title New Note was automatically applied and I didn't have the foresight to change the title before I scanned. Now the scan is excellent and filed in a Notes folder but I can't figure out how to change its name. Can this be done and if so how? Thanks

Just tested. You can add text after the image. That text becomes the note's name.
(same reaction if you write text before scanning a document then insert it).

The only way I’ve found is to open the note with the scan in it and type before the scan what you wish the title to be, when saved “New Note” will be replaced by what was typed.
But if you delete what you typed and save again the title reverts back to “New Note”, so I’ve concluded you need to keep the typing in place for the new title to remain.
Not sure if any of that helps but if you don’t want typing above/before the scan you have to remember to give the note a title first.
Generally to rename a note, you can open the note and pull down on the note, see the suggested title and then tap on the word Edit. I tried this while just scanning a document in the Notes app, and it does not provide that option. It may just be because the note did not contact a Subject or other text before you made the scan. Maybe someone else has had a different outcome.
Thanks for that! I guess I could have been a little more determined in testing mine, instead of giving up after just scanning the document. That's what I get for being lazy.

You're welcome, and fully concur with you that it's all a bit messy just to do a rename for a scan note, it's as though Apple have only thought the process half through.
Thanks for the suggestion (and the follow up by Giulio). Even though I feel it should be unnecessary to add text to a note which doesn't need text your solutions work and I guess they're consistent with how Notes in general titles a new note. At least now my note has a recognisable name in the folder. FWIW I did discover that its possible to change the scan's name quite by accident after reading your replies (and this you may already know). If you tap on the scan document itself the scanned doc pops open. If you then click on the title of the scanned document you can then rename it. Sadly this doesn't rename the document title but is kind of what I expected to happen to rename the document title (New Note). Thanks for the workaround Si and Giulio.
