Linking Text Boxes

Hi. Let's say I have a text box in Pages 7.3 that currently holds 6 lines of text. (This is in page layout format.) If I now link this text box to another one, and carry on typing, the bottom line of text moves to the top of the linked text box, leaving a blank space at the bottom of the first text box after the 5 remaining lines of text. I've found that I can fiddle the system by putting a paragraph break at the end of the first text box, but that defeats the object of linking! Anyone found this problem? And does anyone have a workaround that keeps the advantages of linking text boxes?
