You may have better luck with google maps.
Get the coordinates of a place
From what I can tell, with Apple's "Maps" app, it depends on what is included in the data when you select a location on the map, and then right-click to reveal the "Show Info Card" button. In some of the cards you will notice that there is an "Open Wikipedia" link. Obviously, that link will take you to the location's Wikipedia page. In the top right section of the Wikipedia page, you may find the coordinates. I hope this helps. :)
1. Right-click on the desired location in Maps. Click Drop Pin.
2. Click the "i" icon for info.
3. Scroll down the popover to view the decimal degrees (DD).
You are correct, Leroy. I don't know what everyone else here is seeing, but whether I right-click to show the info card, or do it the other way using the little info icon, A LOT of the cards are NOT complete, and many do not contain GPS coordinates, no matter how far you scroll down in the info card. As I said earlier, if the info card contains a Wikipedia link, that is the only way I have found to possibly find the coordinates.
Roote, I finally figured it out. I missed -- or did not understand -- the part where you said "not use an existing location". Duh! :)
But still a lot of the already existing locations do NOT have GPS coordinates in the info card. So, as I said, you may be able to get it if the info card has a Wikipedia link in it, and look in the upper right section of the Wikipedia page.
1. Right-click on the desired location in Maps. Click Drop Pin.
2. Click the "i" icon for info.
3. Scroll down the popover to view the decimal degrees (DD).
Now what?
It seems Maps is incomplete.
Now what?
Scroll down the popover... you'll know you're scrolling when the scrollbar appears on the right.
Thanks that what I would of thought. Nada.
Thanks !
Sure enough, if I scroll down the info window the GPS coordinates are shown. Thanks!
BTW, Maps is the only map that shows the feature I needed the coordinates for.
You need to drop a pin (purple), not use an existing location pin (red).
You're welcome.
Okay, so how does one drop a pin? I never use this app, and was just curious. :)
See my first post.
You're absolutely right.
