With all that resetting and re-installing, I think iTunes is simply seeing your iPod as a new device, in which case, you need to set some Sync options in order to get any music onto it.
- Connect the iPod to the computer and when iTunes sees it, click on the iPod icon:

which then shows the Device/Settings/Summary pane, which looks like this:

- click on Device/Settings/Music (1.) in the picture below:

- Make sure that Sync Music (2.) is ticked
- in step 3., choose either:
- Entire music library - which adds all ticked songs to your iPod
- Selected playlist, artists, albums and genres - which opens up section 4.
- if you chose selected playlist, artists, albums and genres, you then select the items you want from section 4.
- click the Sync button (in the lower right corner of the iTunes window, see second screenshot)
- when the sync has finished, the two arrows above the battery icon will change to an eject button. Click the eject button
- disconnect the iPod from your computer
That's it. Does it work? If not, at which point does it go wrong?
