Cellular Status Bar Indicator Changed or Having a Bug?

Hello community,

initially when I received my iPhone XS with iOS 12.0. after turning it on, it would always give me this animated signal strength indicator in the status bar, which meant the device was searching for a network connection. Basically the bars were just growing and shrinking from left to right until a network connection was established.

Lately I noticed that this animation is not present anymore on iOS 12.1.3 and also .4 after turning on/switching off airplane mode.

I know it's just a small detail but still I'm wondering, why Apple would possibly have it removed. I feel with the animation it was a lot more indicative than without it. Or am I simply having a bug?
