iMovie library taking up too much space!

I have only one project in my iMovie library, theres nothing in the iMovie trash and yet I still have 36gb of usage in the library. I even erased all the media in the app.

If your library shows 36 GB that means that you have imported 36 GB of media into the library. The media is contained in Projects as well as Events. You may have only one project, but possibly several events as well. Deleting media from the iMovie app does not necessarily delete the media from the iMovie library. To delete media from the library you must delete the entire Event itself (not just the media contained in it) from within the iMovie app. When you delete media that media will be disabled in any project that is using it.

Go to your Movies folder and control click on your iMovie library icon. In the drop down menu click on Show Package Contents. You will see a list of the projects and events in your library. The projects cannot be played here. They are just folders that contain data (media) and codes that iMovie uses to assemble the media into a project. The media is contained in the Original Media folder in each project. The sum total of all that comprises your 36 GB.

Do not move, change, or delete anything in the Show Contents package or its subfolders or you risk corrupting your library. Deletions should be made through the iMovie app as described above.
