do I need to have quicktime installed on my macbook pro version 10.11.6 to use Skype?

QuickTime is part of the system software. Every Mac has it, and it is always as up-to-date as the OS.

Skype 8.x requires OS X Mavericks 10.9 or later. OS X El Capitan 10.11 has QuickTime 10.4.

You do not need to install a separate QuickTime package.
