Every time I rip a CD into iTunes, I have to go into my library, click Song Info and change the Artist's name for EVERY song I've just imported so I can find them last name first, like every library on the planet works. Why doesn't Apple let us change the default Import setting to change the way Artists names are saved, or do they?

You can send feedback to Apple about this but I suspect that unless they get a hundred such requests per day they won't consider it high priority.

I still use an older iTunes but as far as I am aware there is only a single metadata field for Artist names in the file formats used by iTunes. So there isn't a way to import by last name first unless you re-name the entire artist field so the last name comes first. They would have to rename their entire music database but then there would be those who wanted it the other way. Probably the present way is the standard since some bands don't have a first or last name. You'd end up with "Straits, Dire" which is not how most people think of them.
Thanks for the reply, Limnos. I won't hold my breath as Apple is pretty monolithic in the way they want to do things for our "benefit". I am always scratching my head at the way they do things, since they're supposed to be such a "forward thinking" company.
