Voice memo won't play (It has played once.)

iPhone 7 Plus

iOS 12.1.4


I press "play," and it either immediately switches to pause, or sits for a minute while not playing.

But I once have played it right after recording.



I tried to restart my device but it doesn't work.

I transferred the file(.m4a) to my MacBook but it doesn't play.

I created a new voice memo and it plays well.


Please help me.

I understand you are having an issue with a Voice Memos file that will not play. If you are not able to play this file on your iPhone or your MacBook, it sounds like the file may be corrupt. Try opening the .m4a file in more than one application (Right-Click on the file and choose "Open With" and try Quicktime or GarageBand in addition to iTunes). If you continue to record and play new voice memos on your iPhone, then it sounds like this may have been an isolated case. If you need to make an important recording (like an interview, for example), always record with more than one device to ensure against instances like this.

This is NOT helpful at all! These whack updates you force upon users cause havoc. I recorded an hour-and-half long interview with my iPhone voice recorder for a research paper. The updates CORRUPTED the file. So I have spent the last TWO hours combing through YouTube and help pages (OTHER THAN APPLE) to only recover 14 minutes!!! The paper is due tomorrow!!!! I expect some resolution for my troubles and a possible low grade! This is unacceptable!!!! You force these updates on us but fail to tell us that there will be some losses. This is a QC FAILURE!!! We should have the option of declining updates. I woke up and THERE it is! I am ******!!!!!!!
