Apple Events app on Apple TV gets white or black screen since being updated.

Hello,

Since a few days ago when the Apple Events was updated on Apple TV to reflect the upcoming Apple event, the app no longer works, it’s broken.

For 3 or 4 days now since it was updated I just get a black or white screen and nothing else.

Force closing Apple Events app or or restarting Apple TV makes no difference.

I really hope it gets fixed before Apples event in a few days.

Using Apple TV 4K, latest Apple TV software, Australia.

Apple TV 4K, tvOS 12

Was about to reply much the same. I at least get a working app if I change my region to New Zealand.

Doesn’t stick if I change back to Australia. There is obviously some sort of screwed up link associated with Australian region set.

Come on Apple... get it fixed.

It’s quite easy, Australian guys found it, just change your country for, let’s say USA and it works. I’m in Quebec, Canada and I had to do this to watch the presentation yesterday. But, that’s really a stupid thing from Apple. They where already checking from which country we are watching from, all they had to do is put a simple phrase on screen saying “Sorry, not available in your country”!!!

you can watch live on Apple Website,

maybe you can airplay it?

https://www.apple.com/apple-events/livestream/

i get this on that site for my time zone:

“Apple Special Event. March 25, 2019.

From the Steve Jobs Theater, Cupertino, CA.

Watch on March 25 at 10 a.m. PDT”.

or perhaps the app will work once it’s time?

Joining the reports here of the Apple Events app not working since the update on Apple TV 4K in Australia.

App is up to date (it stopped working after the update a few days ago).

Apple TV software is up to date.

Internet connection is working perfectly.

Running the app, all you see is a blank screen in the default background colour (light or dark depending on the time of day or option chosen in preferences).

I've uninstalled and reinstalled the app, restarted the Apple TV from Preferences and pulled the power on it to force a hard restart; the app still doesn't work.

I'm not seeing any reports of this on the Apple TV subreddit so I'm thinking this might be a regional thing (maybe a CDN problem?)

TEMP FIX - Ok, I believe I confirmed it’s Australian region related.

If you go to

Settings

General

Region

Change it from Australia to New Zealand, it takes you back to home screen.

Double press home button, swipe away Apple Events app, try load Apple Events app again.

It probably won’t work. Swipe away Apple Events app again, try it again, boom, works.

Change region back to Australia, broken again and can’t get it to work.

So if this is still broken by the time the keynote is on, change region to New Zealand, swipe the app away, open it, swipe away again, open it and it works.

Change region back and forth at anytime. You don’t lose anything or break anything doing so.
