Apple Pay & Instacart

Recently I decided to help my sister by paying for her groceries through Instacart. I personally don’t have an account so I logged in to hers and used Apple Pay to checkout. The transaction went through without issue. Afterwards, I did notice two separate charges from Instacart on my bank statement but the total for both equaled the total amount I agreed to originally pay.

Fast forward three days and all of a sudden there’s a new charge of $9.99 for a membership. It’s a re-occurring charge of course. I contact Instacart, explain the situation, and am told to provide personal info such as my name, email, phone #, credit card info, etc.....yeah, no. Not happening. I’m not going to give them my card info after what just happened. So I dropped contacting their support and decided to post here in case anyone has had a similar situation. I’ve used Apple Pay numerous times and have never had any issues until now. Instacart somehow obtained my card info through Apple Pay and after reading up again on Apple Pay, this isn’t supposed to happen. It clearly states that no merchant has access to your card info through Apple Pay. Well,...

As you can clearly see, the last four digits of my actual credit card number are right next to Apple Pay. I was charged without permission, they have access to my card info through Apple Pay, and I don’t have an Instacart account.
